Sister Mary Agnes Mahoney CSC

Sister Mary Agnes CSC, 83, of Saint Mary’s Convent died at 5:20 p.m. Friday in the convent after a long illness. She had served in both the academy and college departments at St. Mary’s from 1916 to 1934 and as Local Superior from 1951 to 1957. She also served as president of St. Mary of the Wasatch, Salt Lake City, Utah from 1934 to 1945 and as Provincial Superior of the Western Province from 1945 to 1951. She earned an A. D. degree in English from St. Mary’s College in 1911 and did graduate work in philosophy and mathematics. She received her M. A. from the University of Notre Dame in 1918 and he Ph. D. from Fordham University NY in 1922. Born June 1, 1890 in Rawlins, Wyo., as Ellen Mahoney, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on Sept. 3, 1914, coming from Rawlins. She is survived by two brothers.

 

Friends may call today until time of services Monday in the St. Mary’s Convent Parlors, where a rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Our Lady of Loretto Church with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, St. Mary’s.
