SOUTH BEND - Michael P. Maier, Sr., 88, of N. Riverside Drive, died Monday, Jan. 5, in his residence. Mr. Maier was born Sept. 20, 1909, in Altoona, Pa., and had lived in South Bend since 1950, coming from Toledo, Ohio. He retired from Drewery's Brewery in 1974.

On April 15, 1942, he married Marion Walsh, who preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 1996. He is survived by a daughter, Marilynn Lynn (John) Williams of South Bend; a son, Michael P. (Phyllis) Maier, Jr. of Spring, Texas; seven grandchildren, Michael, Shannon and Brian Maier and Sheila, John, Andrew and Timothy Williams; and one great-granddaughter, Meaghan Maier.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, in Holy Cross Catholic Church. Cremation will take place following committal services in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 7, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Dr., where a rosary will be said at 5 p.m. Mr. Maier was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the Master Brewers Association.
