SOUTH BEND - Elizabeth ''Betty'' Major, 93, of Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday at the health care facility. She retired from the University of Notre Dame after 31 years of service. She was born Nov. 28, 1900, in Sopron Megye, Hungary, and lived in South Bend most of her life.

On Feb. 9, 1921, in South Bend, as Elizabeth Horvath, she married Michael Major. He preceded her in death. Surviving is a daughter, Evelyne Major of South Bend.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday in Riverview Cemetery Chapel. Burial will follow. There will be no visitation. Hickey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to American Lung Association.
