Mamie R. Makowski

SOUTH BEND - Mamie R. “Mickie” Makowski, 66, of 56841 Raider Drive, Elkhart, formerly of Calvert Street, died at 4:30 a.m. Thursday in her home after an illness. Mrs. Makowski retired in 1989 from Uniroyal Plastics Co., Mishawaka. She was born May 30, 1927, in South Bend and lived in South Bend until two years ago.

 

In 1949, in South Bend, as Mamie Whittenburg, she married Edward Makowski. He died Nov. 4, 1980. She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Donelli of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two sons, Bill Walters, with whom she made her home, and Greg A. Makowski of Alexandria, Va.; two grandchildren; two sisters, Helen Canen and Evelyn Starkweather, both of South Bend; and a brother, Joel W. Whittenburg of Lipscomb, Ala. She was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 360 Ladies Auxiliary, Mishawaka, United Rubbers Workers Local 5, and St. John of the Cross Episcopal Church, Bristol.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday in the church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday in Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
