Mary Yvonne Makowski

April 14, 1919 - April 12, 1997

Mary Yvonne ''Babe'' Makowski, of Clearview Place, peacefully went to be with the Lord in her home in the presence of her children, grandchildren, sister and her pastor, Father B. Galic. She was born on April 14, 1919 to Peter and Elodie Dobbelaere in South Bend, where she resided all of her life.

 

She married Sigmund Makowski on June 25, 1938, at Sacred Heart Church in South Bend. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 25th, 1988. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sigmund, Nov. 25, 1988, and a son, Ronald, April 20, 1991. She is survived by three children, a daughter, Patricia Makowski of South Bend, a son, Donald Makowski (Cathy) of Buchanan, and a daughter, Sharon Gill (Darrell) of Mishawaka; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Dorothy Bulla of Mishawaka.

 

Mary retired in 1981 from the University of Notre Dame's laundry department. She was a member of the Mothers of Marines, M.R. Falcons and Felician Sisters Auxiliary. She also volunteered as a teacher's aide and worked in the library at Holy Family School.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, where a rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
