Sister Alicia Marie Maloney CSC

SOUTH BEND - Sister Alicia Marie (Hilda Elizabeth Maloney), CSC, 98, passed away Sunday, July 1. Sister Alicia Marie was born in Murrayville, IL, to the late John and Alice Burns Maloney. She was predeceased by her seven brothers and sisters, and is survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret Maloney of Fresno, CA; nieces, Joellen (Kent) Gardner and Kathleen Maloney, both of California, Marlena Hayes, Mary Ellen (Bob) Gordon and Alicia (Ronald) Craigmiles, all of Illinois; nephews, Jeffrey Maloney, Dustin Maloney and John (Ruth) Fitzpatrick of California, Gregory Maloney, New Jersey, Patrick Fitzpatrick and Michael Fitzpatrick of Illinois. Sister is also survived by many friends.

 

Before entering the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Sister Alicia Marie was in nurse's training at Our Saviour's Hospital, Jacksonville, IL. After entering the Congregation she was trained as a dietician and graduated from Saint Mary's College in 1937. She sought for and was allowed a dietetics internship at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN. Being an active dietician, Sister worked in the Congregation's hospitals in Utah, Indiana, Idaho and California, and was a dietician for Saint Mary's Convent in 1971-1972. Sister was superior at St. Agnes Hospital, Fresno, CA, a cook at the Denver Regional House, Colorado, and a receptionist at Holy Cross Hospital, San Fernando, CA. She retired to Ventura, CA, in 1987 and came to Saint Mary's Convent in 2001, where she was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of the Holy Cross Ministry with the Poor Fund, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN 46556. Reception of the Body will be 9 a.m. Thursday, July 5, and funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Church of Our Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, IN. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
