Joseph E. Mankowski Sr.

SOUTH BEND - Joseph E. Mankowski Sr.,
85, of St. Joseph's Care Center-West, died at 5 a.m. Thursday in
the nursing home. Mr. Mankowski was employed by Studebaker Corp.
for 25 years. He was born July 4, 1908, in Hammond, and lived in
South Bend for 77 years, coming from Hammond.
In 1939, in South Bend, he married Catherine
Niezgodski. She died in 1966. He is survived by a son,
Joseph Jr. of South Bend; three sisters, Florence Shoemaker
of Illinois, and Margaret Conners and Gertrude Odle,
both of South Bend; and two brothers, Harry and Alex, both of
South Bend.
Memorial services will be conducted at a
later date. Cremation will take place. There will be no
visitation. St. Joseph Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Catholic
Church.
