Lloyd Henry Marlin

SOUTH BEND - Lloyd Henry Marlin, 64, of 20069 Darden Road, passed on at 9 p.m. on Saturday, March 7, at Memorial Hospital, after a five-month battle with cancer. Lloyd was born on June 19, 1933, to William E. and the late Augusta L. Marlin in Elkhart, Ind. He graduated from Rensellaer High School in 1951, and attended St. Joseph College in Rensellaer, Ind., and Indiana University, Gary, Ind. He served in the U.S. Army. He worked for Hoosier Home Improvements, Elwood, Ind. In Rensellaer, he worked for Stath Office Supply. He moved to South Bend, Ind., in 1959 to work for Remington-Rand Office Equipment. He began data-processing work at C.G. Conn, Elkhart. Then on to Elkhart General Hospital, also in data-processing. In 1968 he started in data-processing for the Mastic Corporation where he retired after 21 years as a data-processing manager.

 

During his career in data processing, he was a certified system professional and a member of the Data Processing Management Association. After his retirement he became a corporate moving consultant for five years with Wheaton World Wide/Martin Moving and Storage, Mishawaka, Ind.

He was a member of Council Oak 745 F&AM, Masonic Lodge 599, Elkhart, American Legion 50, Izaak Walton League, Clay Township Concerned Citizens, Indiana Professional Real Estate, the Clay Township Republican Club, St. Joseph County Republican Party, and was a longtime supporter of the Republican National Committee. He was the St. Joseph County campaign coordinator for U.S. Senator Dan Coats. He also served as a precinct committee person for Clay Township. Lloyd supported Clay junior baseball as an umpire.

 

Lloyd was married to Ardella ''Sandy'' Sanders on Aug. 18, 1957, in Elwood. She survives. He is also survived by Diana (Anthony) Coiro of South Bend, Cynthia (Kelly) Summerfield of Fenton, Mich., and Samuel Marlin of South Bend; six grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Anthony and Vincent Coiro, Kyle and Melissa Summerfield, and Samuel Marlin, Jr.; a brother, Ken Marlin of Spokane, Wash.; and by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Garriotte of Fair Oaks.

 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, with Rev. David D'Arcy of the Community Congregational Church officiating. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Kaniewski Funeral Home. A Masonic lodge service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County or to the American Cancer Society.
