SOUTH BEND - Charles R. Martin, 84,
of South Harris Street, died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday in his home
after an illness. Mr. Martin retired in 1973 from Bendix Corp.
after 35 years of service. He was born June 5, 1910, in South
Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. On Feb. 22, 1936, in South
Bend, he married Lucille D. Harden. She survives, with two
daughters, Anita L. Goepfrich of Crete, Ill., and Cheryl
A. Rucano of South Bend; three sons, Richard E. of
Highland Heights, Ohio, and Donald L. and James K., both of South
Bend; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was a
member of B.K. Club, Mishawaka, United Auto Workers Union Local
9, American Association of Retired Persons, and Corpus Christi
Catholic Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the church. Entombment
will be in Highland Mausoleum. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6
to 8 p.m. today in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka,
where a parish rosary is scheduled at 3:30 p.m. Memorial
contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or
Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
