Clyde E. Martin

MISHAWAKA - Clyde E. Martin, 96, formerly of East Third Street in Mishawaka, died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, in Southfield Village, South Bend. He was born in Huntington, Indiana, to Chalmers and Minnie Martin. Clyde married the former Leora Kauffman in Mishawaka on March 1, 1932. He is survived by Leora, his wife of 76 years; two daughters, Marlene (Jim) Hutson of Mishawaka and Joan (Bill) Stultz of Overland Park, Kansas; five grandchildren, Katherine (Chris) Claflin, Ed (Debbie) Stultz, Tammy Hutson, David Hutson and Kristin (Steve) Stutzman; and four great-grandchildren, Warren (Anne) Claflin, Geneva Claflin, Ashley Stultz and Tyler Stultz. He was known to his family and friends as "Abie." Mr. Martin was preceded in death by his father, his mother, and his stepfather, Gus Mikesell. He was also preceded in death by a stepsister, Laura Klingle, and a stepbrother, William Mikesell. Clyde was a member of East United Methodist Church, Mishawaka Masonic Lodge #130 and the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed playing golf and fishing. He retired from Simon Brothers where he had been employed as a salesman. Clyde enjoyed his family, church, golfing, fishing, being outdoors, visiting with friends, and the winters that Leora and he spent in Florida. Clyde found time and opportunities to be involved in the lives of his daughters' families as well as his extended family and friends. He was present for graduations, birthdays, ballgames, weddings and holidays. His wit and humor always added to the occasions. Clyde will be greatly missed by all of his family and friends. The family would like to express our deepest thanks to the staff of Southfield Village for all the love, care and help they have given Clyde and the support they have given to us.

 

Friends may visit with the family on Monday, May 5, 2008, in Bubb Funeral Chapel, from 3 to 7 p.m., with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. A memorial funeral service will be conducted in the chapel at Southfield Village on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 11 a.m., with Chaplain Deborah Hewitt and Rev. Roberta Ingle officiating. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
