Grace N. Martin

WALKERTON - Grace N. Martin, 88, passed away at 7:55 p.m.
on Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, in her residence. Grace was born on
November 8, 1919, in Florence, Alabama, to the late Emmett and
Polly Ann (Watkin) Smith. She was also preceded in
death by her sister, Jeanette Kilburn; and by brothers,
Alvin and Wilbur Smith.
On July 16, 1977, in South Bend, Grace
married James Martin, who survives in South Bend, along with her
sisters, Alta Osborne, Genieva Palmer, Irene Hendrixs,
Christine Spears, Pauline Mabry and Betty Tripp,
all of Florence, Alabama; and a brother, Tommy Smith of
Sheffield, Alabama. Grace and her husband, Jim, owned and
operated the Martin's Greenhouse on Western Avenue until retiring
in 1997. She belonged to the Beta Sigma Pi Sorority and was a
member of the Caroline Avenue Church of Christ.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, in St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road. A funeral service will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008, in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery, South Bend.
