Leora M. Martin

MISHAWAKA - Leora M. Martin, 97, passed away during the afternoon hours of Aug. 2nd in Southfield Village, South Bend. Leora was born in Antwerp, Ohio, on July 30, 1911, to Bert and Edith (Camp) Kauffman. On March 1, 1932, in Mishawaka, she married Clyde E. Martin, who preceded her in death on April 29, 2008. Leora and Clyde celebrated their 76th anniversary on March 1, 2008. She graduated from Beauty School in Fort Wayne, IN, and worked for many years as a self-employed beautician. She was a member of East United Methodist Church, the Homemakers Sunday School Class and United Methodist Women. She was PTA President at Beiger School and Mishawaka High School. She was Worthy Matron of Eastern Star, Mishawaka Chapter, and was a member for over 50 years. She was active in the church and the community, always willing and ready to help whenever she could. She gave all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren their first haircuts. Leora traveled to Florida for the winter with her husband, Clyde, for over 20 years. Leora is survived by her two daughters, Marlene (Jim) Hutson of Mishawaka and Joan (Bill) Stultz of Overland Park, KS; five grandchildren, Katherine (Stultz) (Chris) Claflin, Ed (Debbie) Stultz, Tammy Hutson, David Hutson and Kristin (Hutson) (Steve) Stutzman; and four great-grandchildren, Warren (Ann) Claflin, Geneva Claflin, Ashley Stultz and Tyler Stultz.

 

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7th, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, and one hour prior to the funeral services in the church. Funeral services celebrating Leora's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 8th, in East United Methodist Church, 1621 E. Third St., Mishawaka, with Rev. Mark Zerkel, pastor of East United Methodist Church, and Chaplain Deborah Hewitt of Southfield Village officiating. Burial is to follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Contributions in Leora's name may be made to East United Methodist Church. The family would like to express our sincere thanks to the staff of Southfield Village for all the love, care and help they have given Leora and the support they have given us.
