Ruth A. Martin

Ruth A. Martin, 91, of Ell Street, Mishawaka, Ind., died following a brief illness at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 12, in Regency Place. Ruth was born in Parke County, Ind., on July 7, 1910, to Fred Thomas and Sylvia (Spaulding) Jeffries, who preceded her in death.

 

She married John E. Martin in Putnam County on Dec. 3, 1928. He died on Dec. 6, 1978. Ruth was also preceded in death by three sons, Donald C. Martin in 1936, Jerry W. Martin I in 1991 and Boyd "Bud" Martin in 1990; two sisters, Gracie Bell Jeffries and Mary F. Jeffries; and by four brothers, Tom, Wayne, Bill and Woodrow. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and belonged to the VFW Post 360 Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of the First Church of The Nazarene.

 

She is survived by three daughters, Sue (Terry) Holderread of Flat Rock, N.C., Rebecca Fournier of Mishawaka and Carolyn (David) Lewis of Niles, Mich.; three sons, John W. (Louise) Martin of Mishawaka, Gary "Butch" (Joan) Martin of South Bend, Ind., and Frederick L. (Billie Jean) Martin of Mishawaka; 22 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Freda Layer of Terre Haute, Ind. Ruth is also survived by two daughters-in-law, Jerry's wife, Verna, and Boyd's wife, Janice.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home, with Rev. Don Comstock officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
