Enid R. Martz

Enid Rowe Martz, 87, residing at Creekside Court, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away following a brief illness at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center. She was born April 9, 1914, in Kendallville, Ind., as the daughter of Rev. G.B. and Verbia (Zimmerman) Rowe, and had been a lifelong resident of this area. Enid was a faithful and active member of her church. She served as personal secretary to her father, the late Rev. G.B. Rowe, founder of Midway Gospel Tabernacle, now known as Apostolic Temple Church. Enid along with her older sister, Wreatha, assisted their father in tent and street meetings throughout the Michiana area. She also served as youth leader, Sunday School teacher, as well as a member of the church choir and orchestra where she played the violin for 70 years. She was also editor of the church bulletin, "Uplift," for many years.

 

On Dec. 18, 1936, in Greater Midway Gospel Tabernacle, South Bend, she married Cyril "Don" Martz. They recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past December. Mrs. Martz is survived by her husband, Don; two daughters, Nancy E. (James) Sorgenfrei of Granger, Ind., and Donna J. (Lloyd) Andrews of Mishawaka; two sons, Lovell K. (Lila) Martz of Elkhart, Ind., and Aaron (Judy) Martz of Mishawaka; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Rachel (Lester) Shindledecker of Haines City, Fla., and Faith Barnaby of Philadelphia, Pa.; a brother, Rev. David (Mary) Rowe of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Rowe of South Bend; and by many nieces and nephews. Enid was preceded in death by a sister, Wreatha Proctor; a brother, Rev. Worthy G. Rowe; and by two brothers-in-law, Jesse Proctor and Rev. Fred Barnaby.

 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 30, in Apostolic Temple Church. Rev. Peter Rowe, Rev. Paul Rowe and Rev. David Rowe will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Palmer Funeral Home, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend, and one hour prior to services on Saturday in the church.
