SOUTH BEND - Stella Matela, 93, of
Meridian Nursing Center-Cardinal, formerly of Prast Boulevard,
died at 6:25 p.m. Monday in the nursing home. Mrs. Matela was
born Nov. 14, 1901, in Shamokin, Pa.
On Sept. 8, 1919, in South Bend, as Stella Piechocki,
she married Stanley Matela. He died Aug. 17, 1983. Surviving are
a sister, Sophie Peck of South Bend; and several nieces
and nephews. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic
Church and Polish Women's Alliance Group 305.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in
the church. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may
call from 3 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545
N. Bendix Drive, where a parish vigil service will be at 3:30
p.m. and a rosary will be said at 6 p.m.
