Paula Jean Mathews    
June 6, 1957 - March 11, 2008
SOUTH BEND - Paula Jean Mathews, 50, passed away in Memorial Hospital. She had worked as a medical transcriptionist for many area physicians, the South Bend Medical Foundation, the Osteopathic Hospital and Dr. Spaulding. Paula was born in 1957 to Raymond Harold and Rebecca Anne (Smith) Mathews in Terre Haute, IN, and came to South Bend in 1969 with her family. Survivors include her sisters, Penny Gayle Mathews, South Bend and Pamela (Dave) Smith of Nashville, TN; brothers, Stephen R. (Victoria) Mathews, Stanley (Pamela) Mathews and Timothy (Sherri) Mathews, all of South Bend, and Randy (Rochelle) Mathews of Plymouth; 17 nieces and nephews, 13 great-nieces and nephews. Also surviving is Paula's special friend of 17 years, Robert (Bob) Overton. Her parents preceded Paula in death. Paula was an active member of the Community Baptist Church where she sang and played piano. Paula's family would like to extend their thanks to the nurses at Interim Healthcare, the physicians and nursing staff at Memorial Hospital and the South Bend Fire Department for their care of Paula during her illness. Visitation will take place at the Palmer Funeral Homes, Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St., this evening (Thursday) from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in Community Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14, where friends may gather for an hour prior to the services. Contributions in Paula's memory may be made to the Tape Ministry at Community Baptist Church.
