RAYMOND HAROLD MATHEWS

06/08/1927 - 10/10/2002

 

 

Born in Medford, Taylor County Wisconsin, Raymond Harold MATHEWS was the son of Claude Mathews and Ida Mae CLARKSON.

 

He married Rebecca A. SMITH in Terre Haute, Indiana December 29, 1950 in the chapel of First Baptist Church.  He is survived by his wife, Rebecca and seven children:

Stephen (Victoria); Stanley (Pamela); Penny Mathews and Paula Mathews and Timothy (Sherri) Mathews, all of South Bend; Pamela A. Mathews-Smith of Nashville, TN. and Randy (Rochelle) Mathews of Plymouth, Indiana; and a son-in-law, James Alvin SPENCE of Nashville, TN.

 

Also surviving are are 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  A granddaughter, Nicole Mathews, preceeded him death.

 

Surviving are his brothers, Clifford; Edgar; and Ronnie Mathews, all of Arizona and Gerald Mathews of Nevada.

 

With his family by his side, Mr. Mathews passed away at his home at 4921 Craig Road, South Bend, following a brief illness.

 

Mr. Mathews served in the United States Army during World War II.

 

He was active in his church and had served as a Deacon; and helped build several churchs in different areas of the country.

 

He lived in South Bend Indiana 35 years; and had lived in Wisconsin; Arizona and California.  He retired from Lee Way Motor Freight.

 

Services are held at the Hanley & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Andy TAYLOR of Community Baptist Church officiating and burial at Southlawn Cemetery, in South Bend.
