Billie J. Mathias, 75, of Garwood Court, South Bend, died Tuesday afternoon in his home.

Bill retired from Uniroyal Corp., Mishawaka, after 30 years. Bill was born July 1, 1929, in South Bend, to William S. and Nellie (Foltz) Mathias, who preceded Bill in death along with a daughter, Jody Cenkush, and two brothers, Earl and Bob Mathias.

 

On July 21, 1978, in South Bend, Bill married Barbara N. Borntrager, who survives along with five daughters, Kary (Jerry) DeVall, Terry (Brad) Renz of Mishawaka and Cindy (Jim) Asbury of Merrillville, Ind., Julie (Geoff) Oletti of Roswell, Georgia, and Janet (Tony) Williams of Granger; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Maxine Fisher and Sara (John) West of Mishawaka, and Sue (Frank) Chamberlain of Warsaw. Bill was a member of Club 15, Mishawaka Eagles, Mishawaka High School Alumni Association, Mishawaka Men's Euchre Club, and was an avid golfer, bowler and pool player.

 

Bill's wishes were to be cremated and he wanted no visitation or services. Bill often stated he wanted to be remembered as people had seen him in life. The family requests that all memorial contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to the American Heart Association, 2410 N. Grape Road, Mishawaka, IN 46545. The HICKEY Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 17131 Cleveland Road, is in charge of arrangements.
