Sister Mary Damian CSC, 83, of St. Mary’s College, died Sunday afternoon in the infirmary there. She was born in Germany in 1867 as Mary Mathis.

Funeral rites were conducted today at 7 a.m. in the Chapel of the Immaculate Conception at St. Mary’s by her nephew, Rev. Michael Mathis CSC, of the University of Notre Dame. Burial will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Community Cemetery.
