Inez Corrine Matthews

SOUTH BEND - Mrs. Inez Corrine (Thomas) Matthews, 61, a resident of Roger Street, South Bend, entered into eternal rest at 2:52 a.m. Monday, Aug. 11 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. Inez was born in Forest City, AR on August 15, 1946, to Frank and Susan Mae (Harden) Thomas. In 1966, coming from Brinkley, AR, she moved to South Bend. Mrs. Matthews was employed as a cook for Portage Manor until her health failed. She also had worked for Fennessee Day Care from 1985 until 1992 and prior to that eight years of service at St. Joseph's Hospital. She especially loved shopping, dressing fashionably and being around children. In addition, she was a member of Greater St. Matthews Church where she served as a church mother. On May 10, 1998, in South Bend, Inez and George Matthews were united in marriage. Beloved family members who mourn her passing include her husband, George; a daughter, Trinette (Tyonte) Burnett of Chattanooga, TN; two sons, Torrey (Tamia) Fennessee Sr. and Tony G. (Theresa) Fennessee Sr., both of South Bend; two stepsons, Michael Bowen and Terry Fennessee, both of South Bend; grandchildren, Terris, Taquesha, Tamisha, Takayla, Tyrus, TaLayja, Tiera, Torrey Jr. Tylon, Asha, De'Andre, LaRon, Tony Jr. Tammorrow, Trashana, Travonn, Cynthia, Jean, Eugene and Donna; a goddaughter, Becky Williams of South Bend; two sisters, Rosie (Howard) Williams and Pearlie Mae Thomas, both of Chicago, IL, along with other relatives and friends. Preceding her in death along with her parents were two great-grandchildren, Tyree and Trent; sisters, Metter C. Franklin, Addie Lee Dunn, Vera Lee Burton, Mandy Thomas and Beatrice Thomas; and brothers, Frank Thomas Jr., Roscoe Thomas and A.J. Thomas.

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Matthews will be held at noon today in Greater St. Matthews Church with Pastor Charles King officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary
