Margaret C. Matthys, 88, of Mayflower
Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 12:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 18,
in her residence. She was born on Aug. 17, 1910, in South Bend,
and lived in this area all of her life. On Oct. 4, 1930, as
Margaret VanWanzeele, she married Maurice Matthys, who
preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 1981. Mrs. Matthys was also
preceded in death by a grandson, Mark Matthys, who died in 1984;
a brother, Albert VanWanzeele; and by a sister, Mary Matthys.
Mrs. Matthys is survived by a daughter, Doris (William) Mitchell
of South Bend; two sons, Ronald (Beverly) Matthys and Gerald
(Janet) Matthys, both of South Bend; ten grandchildren, one
stepgrandson and eight great-grandchildren; and by a brother,
Eugene VanWanzeele of South Bend.
Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Holy Family Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at Riverview Cemetery.
