Richard D. Matuszak, 63, of Staffordshire Drive, South Bend, Ind., died at 12:23 a.m. on Sunday, July 18, in Hospice House.

He was born on April 14, 1936, to Aloysius and Clementine (Tomaszewski) Matuszak in South Bend, and was a lifelong resident.

Mr. Matuszak retired from Uniroyal after 29 years of employment. After retiring from Uniroyal, he worked at Parish-Martin Machine Shop for three years.

On June 1, 1957, he married Melvine Deranek, who preceded him in death on March 5, 1989.

He is survived by his mother, Clementine Matuszak of South Bend; two sons, Gregory D. (Kim) Matuszak of Indianapolis, Ind., Jeff (Chris) Matuszak of Osceola, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Sean Matuszak, Tyler Matuszak, Elora Matuszak, Brandi Matuszak, Tiffany Leatherman, Andrea Matuszak, Stephanie Matuszak, Chad Leatherman and Brandon Leatherman; a brother, Norman (Nancy) Matuszak of South Bend; and by his companion, Carol Deadman of South Bend.

Mr. Matuszak was a member of Christ the King Catholic Parish, Bowlers Country Club, Knights of Columbus Santa Maria Council #553, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #58, and the Uniroyal Retirees Association. He was also an Army veteran, a graduate of Acme Tool & Dye, and he enjoyed playing golf.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 21, in Christ the King Catholic Church, with Rev. John P. Riley, C.S.C., officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Polish Roman Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today, July 20, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where a parish Rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m.
