George L. Matz

George L. Matz, 75, of 1156 Georgia Street, Walkerton, Ind., passed away after a three-month illness at 8:05 a.m. on Wednesday, June 23, in his home. Mr. Matz was born on Oct. 10, 1923, in Teegarden, Ind., to George A. and Dottie (Skiles) Matz, and lived in Walkerton, coming from Sheboygan, Wis.

 

On Nov. 30, 1946, in Koontz Lake, Ind., he was married to Goldie Wesolek Brennan, who preceded him in death on March 15, 1999. He was also preceded in death by his parents and by two stepsons, William F. and Donald L. Brennan. He is survived by two daughters, Linda L. Bennett of South Bend, Ind., and Debra (Gene) Fournier of Rhode Island; a sister, Pauline Klopfenstein of Walkerton; and by three grandchildren, Erik, Kelli and Abby Fournier.

 

George was a retired supervisor for the Kohler Company, Kohler, Wis., was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, a member of the Walkerton American Legion, Post #189, the Walkerton Masonic Lodge 619 F & AM, and he loved gardening.

 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 28, in the Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel, with Pastor D.O. VanDyne officiating. Burial will be in the Morris Addition of the Polk Township Cemetery, Teegarden, Ind. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and from 9 a.m. until the time of services on Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Marshall County Hospice.
