Emma (Van Hulle) Mayfield

Emma (Van Hulle) Mayfield, 83, of New Carlisle, Ind., died at 9:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, Ind. She was born Oct. 2, 1913, in Kewanna, Ill., and lived in the South Bend area most of her life.

 

On Aug. 31, 1929, as Emma Van Hulle, she married Calvis L. Mayfield, Sr., who preceded her in death in 1980. She is survived by four sons, Calvis, Jr., and Rodney, both of New Carlisle, Robert of Mishawaka, Ind., and Jerry of South Bend; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; a sister, Leona Bass; a half sister, Ester Torkin of South Bend; and two brothers, Julius Van Hulle of South Bend and Edward Van Hulle of Osceola, Ind. She was preceded in death by two grandsons, Robert and Chris; two sisters, Mary Horvath and Clarice Hull; and a brother, John Van Hulle.

 

Mrs. Mayfield was a homemaker. She was a member of Monson Chapel United Methodist Church, and had attended Ardmore Church of the Brethren and the First Church of the Nazarene. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 2, since 1952.

 

Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William St., where an Eastern Star Service will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Order of Eastern Star.
