Services for Rev. Joseph R. McAllister CSC, 90, of Holy Cross House at Notre Dame, who died Wednesday at St. Joseph Medical Center, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Moreau Seminary Chapel. Burial will be in Holy Cross Community Cemetery, on the campus. Friends may call after 3:30 p.m. Friday at the Moreau Seminary Chapel, where a wake service will be at 7:30 p.m.

 

Rev. McAllister was born Oct. 9, 1899 in Peru, Ind. He is survived by two nieces. He entered the Holy Cross Seminary on Sept. 2, 1914; made his first profession in the Congregation of the Holy Cross on Oct. 6, 1920. He was ordained to the priesthood on June 24, 1927. He taught at Holy Cross Seminary from 1927 to 1940 and Holy Cross Mission Band from 1940 to 1943. He then entered the parish ministry and served as pastor at St. Mary’s Church, Austin, Texas; St. Patrick’s Church, South Bend; assisted at Sacred Heart Parish, New Orleans, and St. Edward’s University, Austin, Texas. In 1964 he joined the West Coast Mission Band in San Leandro, Calif. and served until 1969. He was then assigned to Moreau High School, Hayward, Calif.; Marianite Sisters of Holy Cross, New Orleans; and St. Agustine’s Church, Pleasanton, Calif.; and St. Emudius Church, San Francisco.
