Katherine Winifred "Kay" McCarthy, 82, died Sunday, March 30, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County. She lived at St. Paul's Retirement Community for the past four years, formerly of Valparaiso, Ind., and Oak Park, Ill.

 

Kay was the beloved wife of Dave McCarthy and mother of five sons and two daughters, David (Carol) of Lexington, S.C., John (Rose) of San Rafael, Calif., Richard (Faye) of Cleveland, Tenn., Kathleen (Giuseppe-deceased) Rombaldi of Mays Landing, N.J., Maureen (John) Harangody of Omaha, Neb., Kevin (Marianne) of Granger, Ind., and Tim (Julia) of Bloomington, Ill. The McCarthy's have 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

 

Kay was born July 1, 1920, in McKeesrock, Pa., to John Francis and Estella (Zastrow) Branagan. Her parents and two younger sisters, Elizabeth Andersen of Zellwood, Fla., and Margaretta Mason of Youngstown, Ohio, preceded her in death. Kay spent her life caring for others as a mother, wife, volunteer, and always as a good friend.

 

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 3, in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, South Bend, Ind. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 4, in St. Paul's Chapel, South Bend, and at 10 a.m. Monday, April 7, in St. Steven's Church, Oil City, Pa., where she will be interred. Arrangements in Oil City are through the Morrison Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Ind.
