MISHAWAKA - George L. McCreary, 80, of Mishawaka, passed
away on Saturday, November 22, 2008, in Miller's Merry Manor in
Wakarusa with his loving and caring family at his bedside. George
was born on October 30, 1928, in Harlan County, KY, to the late
Taylor and Gracie (Vanbever) McCreary. On October 31,
1964, George married the former Linda L. McCarthy in
Mishawaka, IN. George and Linda shared 44 years of love and
commitment to each other. His wife Linda is surviving, along with
their five children, Debra (Dan) Metzger, Timothy Rider,
Trudy (Joe) Smolenak and Kimberly McCreary, all from
Mishawaka, and George (Annette) McCreary Jr. of Niles. George was
a loving and caring grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 14
great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister, Hazel McCreary
of Virginia. George served his country in the United States
Marine Corps for nine years. After the service he worked as a
tanker truck driver from which he retired. George's wishes were
to be cremated.
A memorial visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, in the Bubb Funeral Chapel, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, IN. A private burial will be held at a later date. The family requested, in lieu of flowers, that memorial contributions be made to The Center of Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
