Lloyd Robert McCullough Sr.

Lloyd Robert "Mac" McCullough Sr., 75, a resident of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away Wednesday, March 27, in Saint Joseph Community Hospital, Mishawaka, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Lloyd was born June 15, 1926, in Eaton Rapids, Mich., to Dow and Lydia (Laurence) McCullough. At the age of ten his mother died and he grew up in the house of his maternal uncle and aunt, Giletta and William Laurence. He was preceded in death by his parents, and by a brother, Thomas Larenzo McCullough.

 

He attended Muskegon High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1944. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On Feb. 10, 1946, in Muskegon, Mich., he married the former Grace Jeanette Vliek. He re-enlisted in the military in 1950 and served in the Korean Conflict. He was discharged in 1953. Lloyd had been a Mishawaka resident since 1949. He was a 36-year employee of Wheelabrator Frye where he worked as a machine repairman until 1987. He was a lifetime member of V.F.W Post 360, Coalbush United Methodist Church, and the Restless Rovers Camping Club.

 

He is survived by his wife; four children, Ginger Marie (Jerry) Landis of Leesburg, Ind., Lloyd Robert McCullough Jr. of Mishawaka, Robert Lars of Mishawaka and Bethany Ann at home; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; and by two sisters, Martha Thomas of Riverside, Calif., and Jennie Mae Lancaster of Lincoln Park, Mich.

 

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, March 29, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be at Coalbush United Methodist Church on the corner of SR331 and Jackson Road, Saturday, March 30, at 11 a.m. There will be a visitation one hour prior to the service in the church. Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 1, at 11 a.m. at Lakeside Cemetery, Decatur, Mich.
