SOUTH BEND - Earl C. "Bud" McCune, 83, residing in South Bend, passed away at 3:11 a.m. Sunday, June 15, 2008, in Hospice House. He was born May 1, 1925, in South Bend, to Frank S. and Marie (Morris) McCune, and had remained a lifelong resident of this area.

 

On April 3, 1982, in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Linda Lee Patterson Woodhurst. His loving wife Linda of 26 years survives him. Also surviving are six daughters, Linda J. (Mike) Bingaman of Lakeville, Kathy M. (Mike) MacCauslan of South Bend, Susan L. (Anne Janszen) Woodhurst of Walkerton, Patti L. Anderson of South Bend, Debra A. (Scot) Kwast of Elkhart and Ann M. (Jay West) Woodhurst of Lakeville; two sons, James F. (Sandy) McCune of St. Joseph, MI, and Timothy W. (Karen) Woodhurst of South Bend. Also surviving Bud are 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Betty McCune of South Bend. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Dennis Klaer. Mr. McCune retired in 1988 from the Carpenters Union Local #413, following 50 years of employment. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during WWII aboard a destroyer in the South Pacific, in 10 major engagements including a torpedo run on the Japanese Navy in the Luzon Straights. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 1167, D.A.V. Chapter 19, and was a former member of the Clay Township Lions Club. He was also a member of Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, North Liberty. Bud loved to play in his woodworking shop.

 

Memorial services for Mr. McCune will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, in Pine Creek Church of the Brethren, 69531 Pine Road, North Liberty, where military rites will be conducted following the services. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. today, June 17, in the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend. Contributions in memory of Earl C.
