Sister Josephine McDonald CSC

Sister Josephine McDonald (Sister Carmel Mary), CSC. Sister Josephine was born in Lynchburg, Virginia, on March 19, 1907, to the late John L. and Nora McKenna McDonald. Sister is survived by her sister-in-law, Lily McDonald of Vero Beach, Florida; nephews, David McDonald of Maryland, and Richard Frank of Ohio; and niece, Peggy McDonald Hoffman of Maryland.

 

Before entering the congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross, Sister Josephine held a clerical position with a company in Washington, D.C. After entering the congregation she was educated as an elementary school teacher and taught 48 years in schools in Maryland, New York, Washington, D.C., Virginia, and Ohio. She tutored and was active in parish ministry in Virginia. Sister was kitchen director at Saint Angela Hall in Kensington, Maryland, and then teacher and secretary at Immaculata School and in parish ministry in Hendersonville, North Carolina, before retirement, and in 1997 at Silverwood Farm, Prince Frederick, Maryland. In 2002, Sister came to Saint Mary's Convent, Notre Dame, Indiana, where she was active in the Ministry of Prayer until her death. Reception of the body will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 7 in Church of Our Lady of Loretta, Saint Mary's, Notre Dame, Ind. Funeral serves will be at 10:30 a.m. March 7, in Church of Lady of Loretto, Saint Mary's Notre Dame, Ind. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
