NORTH LIBERTY - Carol Ann McFarland (nee Muessel) of North Liberty, Indiana, was born January 9, 1951, in South Bend, In. and departed this life on Friday, November 20, 2009, after an illness. Carol passed peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Carol and Howard had 35 wonderful years together. She is survived by her husband, Howard, her children Colleen (Jeff) Laderer, Shannon (Alana), Harrison, and her grandchildren Meredith, Caroline, Haley, Amanda, and Susie. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary (Ford) Swanson, Margaret (Michael) Hay, and her brother Charles Muessel. She was a human resources director for RBC Bearings in Bremen and Plymouth and had earned professional certification (SPHR) through the Society for Human Resource Management. Carol graduated from St. Joseph's High School, South Bend, Ball State University, and earned her Masters degree in Guidance and Counseling from I.U.S.B. She enjoyed collecting antiques, feeding and watching the birds in her yard, her flower garden, landscaping, cooking, and playing cards and games with her friends. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren. A special thanks to Marsha Hunt for her friendship, care and attention during Carol's illness. Carol will be affectionately remembered by her family and friends for her devotion, strength, loyalty, humor and her kindness. She greatly enriched the lives of her family and all who knew her. There will be an open house to celebrate Carol's life on November 28th at her home from noon until 4:00 p.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at Welshfh@yahoo.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Carol's name to Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Joseph County. Welsheimer Family Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
