Services for Sister M. Elvira CSC, 95, of Saint Mary’s Convent, who died Saturday morning in the convent, will be at 10a.m. Tuesday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery at St. Mary’s. Friends may call today and Tuesday in the convent parlors, where a wake service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today.

 

She was born Cecilia McGinnis on Oct. 13, 1888 in New Berlin, Ill. and entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s on Jan. 5, 1919. She was received as a novice on Aug. 15, 1919 and professed her vows on Aug. 15, 1921. She was assigned to housekeeping duties throughout her community life and served as a cook in various assignments to convents. She was assigned to St. Mary’s Convent on two occasions, one in 1921 to 1922, and again in 1937 to 1944.She was assigned to St. Patrick’s Convent, East Chicago from 1944 to 1964. Her other assignments were in Colorado, Nebraska, Maryland and Washington DC. She came to Our Lady of Holy Cross Convent in South Bend from 1964 to 1972 before coming to St. Mary’s Convent where she lived until her death.
