SOUTH BEND - Evelyn McGonigal, 83, of South Bend, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2008, in the Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend. She was born on August 7, 1925, in South Bend, to the late Thomas and Rose (Kaczorowski) Nowak. She retired from Associates in 1984 after 13 years of service. Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann (Ken Prager) Smith of South Bend; her son, Thomas Patrick (Mary) McGonigal of Waukegan, IL; three grandchildren, Melissa (Adam) Smith, Ashley Smith and Heather (Scott) Esp; three great-grandchildren, Nathan Esp, Kodi Smith and Lucy Smith; her sister, Mary Jane Nowak of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Lorraine Nowak of South Bend; a brother-in-law, John Vellutato of New Jersey; a niece, Karen Marano; and by two nephews, John and Mark Vellutato. She was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Vellutato; and a brother, Daniel Nowak. "Grandma Duck," as she was known by her great-grandchildren, will be greatly missed!

A memorial service for Evelyn will be held at 2 PM Saturday, November 15, 2008, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, where friends may visit for two hours prior to the service.
