SOUTH BEND - John D. McGriff, 67, of North Kenmore Street, died Saturday morning in the home of his son, Randall, after an illness. He was a self-employed local heating and air-conditioning contractor. Mr. McGriff was born on Dec. 20, 1926, in Lakeville, and has lived in the South Bend area for the past eight years, coming here from Lakeville.

On June 12, 1948, in Lakeville, he married Elizabeth Ann Held. She died on Aug. 26, 1993. He is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Rash of LaPaz; two sons, Randall of LaPorte and Kevin of Katy, Texas; six grandchildren; and a sister, Frances Snyder of Granger. Mr. McGriff was a member of American Legion Post 363, Lakeville, and South Bend/Mishawaka Valley Aires Barbershop Chorus.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Kaniewski Funeral Home. Burial will be in Southlawn Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Monday and an hour prior to the services on Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph County Hospice or South Bend/Mishawaka Valley Aires Barbershop Chorus.
