Rev. Frederick T. McKeon CSC, 76, chaplain to the Sisters of the Holy Cross at St. Mary’s college and former teacher of modern languages at the University of Notre Dame, died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday in the university infirmary. He was born Aug. 31, 1874 in Mt. Carmel, Conn. He received his bachelor of arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1902 and his Ph. D. degree in 1907 from Catholic University, Washington DC. He was ordained in 1907. He was an instructor of Spanish from 1907 to 1914 at St. Edward’s University, Austin, Tex. From 1917 to 1916 he was a professor of modern languages at the University of Notre Dame. The next year he served as an army chaplain on the Mexican border and in Puerto Rico. From 1917 to 1920 he taught physics at the University of Portland in Oregon. In 1920 he returned to Notre Dame to teach modern languages until his retirement in 1937. Since 1937 he has served as the chaplain to the Sisters of Holy Cross.

 

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Sacred Heart Church at the university with burial in the Community Cemetery at the university.
