Rev. William McNamera CSC, 71, died Saturday afternoon in Holy Cross House on the University of Notre Dame campus. He was born in Chicago, Jan. 28, 1895, and entered the Holy Cross community May 17, 1917. He made his final profession of vows in 1922 and was ordained to the priesthood June 16, 1922. From 1922 to 1930 he taught history in Holy Cross Seminary at Notre Dame. In 1930 and 1931 he took postgraduate studies in history at Catholic University of America, Washington DC. From 1930 to 1934 he was superior of Holy Cross Seminary, and from 1934 to 1961, he taught history at Notre Dame. He has lived in retirement in Holy Cross House since 1961.

 

The office of the dead will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Sacred Heart Church, followed by the funeral mass, with burial in Community Cemetery. Friends may call in Corby Hall on the Notre Dame campus after 5 p.m. today.
