SOUTH BEND - Katherine H. McNeill, 94, passed away
peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 23, 2008,
in the Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center. Katherine was
born on May 16, 1913, in St. Paul, MN, to Richard and Catherine (Miles)
Berres. She retired in 1978 from the American National
Bank in St. Paul, MN, where she was employed as a bookkeeper for
over 25 years.
Survivors include her son, W. Timothy
(Helen) McNeill of South Bend, IN; six grandchildren, Anne (Jim) Gattman
of St. Paul, MN, Michael (Michele) McNeill of South Bend, IN,
Molly (Tim) Healy of Valparaiso, IN, Mary (Mason) Evans
of Portland, OR, Katie (Marty) Harshman of South Bend, IN,
and Mark McNeill of Indianapolis, IN; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her three sisters, Margaret Shires,
Eileen Gehan and Marion Gurney; and her
great-granddaughter, Manette Josephine McNeill. Grams was a
loving and feisty Irish grandmother. Her great joys in life
included watching and cheering for her grandchildren in their
various sports activities, especially hockey, baking delicious
chocolate brownies and loaves of banana bread, and faithfully
following the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. We knew that Grams would
be at every game, watching the referees closely and clutching her
beads for good luck. We were so lucky to have Grams in our lives
for so long, and we will miss her dearly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at
10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 28, in St. Anthony de Padua Church.
Friends may call one hour prior to the Mass in the church. Burial
will take place at a later date at Oakland Cemetery, St. Paul,
MN. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's High
School, 1441 N. Michigan St., South Bend, IN 46617; to the
O'Hanna Heritage Foundation, P.O. Box 186, South Bend, IN 46624;
or to the Sister Maura Brannick Health Center, 326 South Chapin
