Sister M. Alphonse McNulty CSC

1877 – Sept. 23, 1961

A requiem mass was held this morning in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto at St. Mary’s for Sister M. Alphonse CSC, who died at the motherhouse Sunday night after an extended illness. Burial was in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus.

 

She was born Marian Elizabeth McNulty in Ontario in 1877. She entered the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1903; received the habit in in 1904, and professed her vows in 1909. During her community life she taught in schools in California, Iowa, Illinois, and South Bend, Plymouth and Union City in Indiana. Her last assignment was at St. Columbia’s School in Cairo, Ill. Illness forced her retirement in 1955. Since that time she had been a patient in St. Mary’s Hospital in Cairo.
