SOUTH BEND - Essie Mae Meadows, 69, of 226 S. Laurel St., died at 3:15 p.m. Saturday in her home after an illness. Mrs. Meadows was born Nov. 30, 1924, in Little Rock, Ark., moving to South Bend in 1967 from Greenfield, Tenn.

In 1974, in South Bend, she married Edward Lee Meadows. He died in 1982. Surviving are a sister, Willie Bea Jones of Waco, Texas; and four brothers, Roosevelt Mitchell of Cairo, Ill., Aaron Jones of Greenfield, Jeff Jones of Los Angeles and Ulysses Jones of South Bend. She was a member of Miracle Temple Church of God in Christ, where she served as assistant church mother.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the church. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Alford's Mortuary.
