Rita M. Mejer, 77, of Vine Street, South Bend, passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, 2005, in her residence. She was born on September 28, 1927, in South Bend, to the late John A. and Lillian H. (Gorka) Kreskai. A grandson, Todd A. Mejer, is also deceased.

On October 5, 1946, in South Bend, Rita married Clement R. Mejer, who passed away December 26, 1960. Rita is survived by daughters, Maria E. Mejer of South Bend and Jacqueline A. (James) DeBoe of South Bend; grandchildren, Tammie D. Mejer of South Bend, James F. (Kim) DeBoe of Mishawaka, Matthew D. (Christi) Mejer of Aliso Viejo, California, and Eric A. DeBoe of South Bend; great-grandchildren, Kodie M. Mejer, Kaylee A. DeBoe and Tyler J. DeBoe; a sister, Helen R. (Ed) Lee of Niles, Michigan; and four nephews and their families.

She retired in 1975 after 16 years working at St. Mary's College. Rita was a member of the Cathedral of St. Matthew. She enjoyed playing bingo, puzzles, and playing the slot machines in Las Vegas and at the Blue Chip Casino.

Private services and burial will take place. St. Joseph Funeral Home is helping with the arrangements. The family has requested those wishing to make memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, should do so to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.
