MISHAWAKA - Magdalina S. "Maggie" Melkey, 93,
residing at Waterford Estates, Mishawaka, formerly of South 33rd
Street, River Park, passed away at 3:15 a.m. Friday, February 22,
2008, in Hospice House, South Bend. She was born May 30, 1914, in
South Bend, and had remained a lifelong resident of this area.
She was a longtime resident of River Park.
As Magdalina Simon, she was united in
marriage to Walter A. Renz, who preceded her in death on
August 11, 1957. Then on October 4, 1958, in South Bend, she
married Andrew Melkey, who also preceded her in death on October
23, 1978. A Cousin, with whom Maggie was always very close,
Beverly Frey, preceded her in death on January 5, 1991.
Mrs. Melkey retired from H.D. Lee Company in South Bend. She was
a longtime member of St. Anthony de Padua Catholic Church. She is
survived by two cousins, Betty (John) Maffitt of South
Bend and Mary Ann (Ernie) Butts of Granger; and a stepson,
James Melkey of Indianapolis.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be
celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 25, 2008, in St.
Anthony dePadua Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Chapel
Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. The family will receive friends
from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. (today) Sunday in Palmer Funeral
Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, where a parish
Rosary will be recited at 3:00 p.m. Mrs. Melkey requested that
any memorials be made to her favorite charity, Pet Refuge, Inc.,
2300 West 6th Street, Mishawaka, IN 46544.
