Sister Mary Salvatore CSC, 84, died Sunday in Saint Mary’s Convent, after a long illness. Born Catherine Mellet on March 16, 1881, in County Mayo, Ireland, she received her early education in Ireland and completed her nurse’s training in Providence Hospital, Washington DC in 1906. She entered the Sisters of the Holy Cross in 1910, receiving the habit the same year, and making her final profession of vows in 1915. During her community life she was stationed at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah; St. Joseph Hospital and St. Mary’s Convent in South Bend; Mount Carmel Hospital in Columbus, Ohio; and Our Saviour’s Hospital in Jacksonville, Ill.

 

A requiem high mass will be offered at 6:10 a.m. Tuesday in the Church of Our Lady of Loretto on the St. Mary’s campus with burial in Our Lady of Peace Cemetery on the campus. Friends may call at the convent parlor.
