Cecelia Margaret Mellquist

Cecelia Margaret Mellquist, 89, formerly of Abshire Drive and Hermitage Drive, South Bend, Ind., passed away from complications of Alzheimer's disease on Saturday, March 29, in the Ironwood Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in South Bend on July 12, 1913, she was the daughter of the late Joseph E. and Anna M. (Riba) Anda. On April 15, 1939, she married Russell C. Mellquist, who preceded her in death on June 24, 1985. She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth E. Anda, Anne M. Mummey and Mary G. Keltner; and by two brothers, Joseph S. Anda and Peter J. Anda. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Ream of South Bend; a granddaughter, Kristin (Jeff) Shafier of Mishawaka, Ind.; a step-great-granddaughter, Dana Shafier of Cedar Lake, Ind.; five nieces, Shirlee Chennelle of Villa Park, Ill., Marcia (Michael) DeBroka of Mishawaka, Jeanne (Craig) Williams of South Bend, Patricia (Howard) Hoffman of South Bend and Yvonne Felix of Indianapolis, Ind.; a nephew, John Geisler of Florida; and by nine great-nieces and six great-nephews. Mrs. Mellquist attended the former South Bend Central High School and worked at Wilson Brothers Shirt Factory before becoming a homemaker. She was an active member of the Cathedral of St. Matthew for many years, and was formerly a member of the Rosary Society at the Cathedral and the Christ Child Society. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, and was known by family and friends for her baking skills.
