WALKERTON - James A. Mercer, 79, of 1810 Union Road, died at 2 a.m Wednesday in his home after an illness. Mr. Mercer was the owner of Mercer's Beverage House, Lakeville.

He was born on Sept. 7, 1916, in Sikeston, Mo. On May 30, 1940, in Charleston, Miss., he married Lorraine C. Smith. She survives with a daughter, Deborah Lowery of LaPorte; two sons, James of LaPorte and Robert of Walkerton; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Ada Costellia of Mound City, Ill. He was a member of Masonic Lodge of South Bend and Walkerton IOOF Lodge 437.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rannells Funeral Home, Koontz Lake Chapel. Cremation will take place. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to
