Robert J. Mestach

Robert J. Mestach, 75, of Logan Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness on Sunday, Sept. 9, in his residence.

Robert was born on Sept. 2, 1926, in Mishawaka, as the son of the late Rene and Ethel (Coil) Mestach. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bucky; and by two sisters, Thelma Baert and Irene Johnson.

On June 8, 1946, in Mishawaka, Robert married the former Irene Meersman. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene; two daughters, Kathy (Barry) Slott of South Bend, Ind., and Diane (Dale) Hemphill of Mishawaka; a brother, Edgar Mestach of Dunlop, Ind.; a sister, Vera Hosler of Mishawaka; and by two grandsons, Bradley (Bridgette) Slott of Chicago, Ill., and Marty Slott of Vail, Colo.

Bob was a lifetime area resident with a summer home at Sisters Lakes, Mich. Bob worked for Kroger for 28 years before retiring in 1987. He then worked for Lang-Feeney Land Surveyors for five years and retired from there in 1992. He proudly served his country during World War II as a marine. He was a member of VFW Post 360, DAV lifetime member, 4th Marine Division Association, American Legion Post 161, A.A.R.P., and was a past member of the BK Club.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 12, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 West 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, in the funeral home, with Brother Steve Nani, C.S.C., officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind.
