MISHAWAKA - Cecilia M. Metzner, 83, passed away Saturday
in Golden Living Center - Fountainview, Mishawaka. Cecilia was
born January 16, 1925, in Mishawaka, the daughter of the late
Fernand and Louise (Michiels) Florent. She was born
at home and lived her entire life in the same home. She was a
1942 graduate of Mishawaka High School. On October 12, 1946,
Cecilia married John F. Metzner, who preceded her in death in
2001. Cecilia was a homemaker and later in life worked at Darr
& Associates in South Bend. She was a lifelong member of St.
Bavo Catholic Church in Mishawaka. Cecilia was a seamstress and
was especially talented in needle work which included counted
cross-stitch, knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the
Embroiders Guild. Cecilia and John enjoyed square dancing.
Cecilia's surviving family includes her three sons, David F.
(Ann) Metzner of Mishawaka, Dennis J. (Sue) Metzner of Granger
and Mary Lou (Mike) Lackey of Birmingham, Alabama; seven
grandchildren, John, Angela, James, Michelle and Brittany
Metzner, Keith and Andrew Streich; and a brother-in-law,
James Metzner.
Friends may spend time with Cecilia's family on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Thallemer, Goethals & Wells Funeral Home, 503 West Third Street, Mishawaka, where a prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, 511 West Seventh Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka. Contributions in Cecilia's memory may be made to St. Bavo Church. Envelopes are available in the funeral home.
