John F. Metzner

June 27, 1921 - April 10, 2001

John F. Metzner, 79, of South Cleveland Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away unexpectedly in his home on Tuesday morning, April 10.

John was born on June 27, 1921, in Mishawaka, to the late Paul and Vada (Peters) Metzner.

On Oct. 12, 1946, John married the former Cecilia Florent in the St. Bavo Church Rectory, Mishawaka. She survives. He is also survived by a daughter, Mary Lou (Mike) Lackey of Birmingham, Ala.; two sons, Dave (Ann) Metzner of Mishawaka and Dennis (Sue) Metzner of Granger, Ind.; seven grandchildren, John, Angela, James, Michelle and Brittany Metzner, and Keith and Andrew Streich; a sister, June Gaume of Elkhart, Ind.; and by a brother, James Metzner of San Antonio, Texas.

John was a 1940 graduate of Mishawaka High School, and a member of the Michiana Alumni Band. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran and a member of Disabled American Veterans.

Friends may visit with the Metzner family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 12, and Friday, April 13, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday in the funeral home, with Father Barry England officiating. Interment will follow at Fairview Cemetery.
