Charles A. Meuninck

Oct. 4, 1912 - July 2, 2000

Charles August "Chuck" Meuninck, 87, of Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after a long illness on Sunday, July 2, in Re-gency Place, South Bend, Ind.

Mr. Meuninck was born on Oct. 4, 1912, in Mishawaka, son of the late Ernest and Mary (Claeys Martin) Meuninck. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Rudy Meuninck.

On June 26, 1937, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chuck married the former Martha Carol Stowell, who survives. They were married for 63 years. He is also survived by his sons, Charles and Jeffrey of South Bend and Mishawaka, and Tilton Chaney of Fayetteville, Ga.; and by his daughter, Marilyn of Boston, Mass. He was the proud grandfather of Troy, Todd, Benjamin and Abigail; and great-grandfather of Haleigh and Taylor. Also surviving are his brothers, Al, Fred, Julius and Ernest, Jr.; his sister, Genevieve Gyoles; and 32 nieces and nephews.

Mr. Meuninck was employed for 22 years by Studebaker and, when they closed in South Bend, he became a real estate broker until his retirement in 1974. In addition, he and his wife owned and operated the Lad and Lassie Children's Shop for 14 years.

Mr. Meuninck was a member of St. Joseph Church, Mishawaka, where he was an usher. He was also an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. In addition, he coached the St. Joseph Grade School basketball and football teams for 25 years. He was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of Toastmasters as a young man.

Friends called from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, in the Thallemer-Goethals Funeral Home, Mishawaka, where a prayer service was held at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today, July 5, in St. Joseph Church, with Father Robert A. Yast officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery.

He will be sorely missed by family and friends alike.
