Cora M. Meyer

May 14, 1875 – July 23, 1963

Mrs. Cora C. Meyer, 88, of 1010 E. Indiana Ave., died at 12:45 a.m. today in her home after a brief illness. 

 

For many years a teacher in Noble County, Mrs. Meyer was born on May 14, 1875, in Fort Wayne.  She and her husband, Louis Meyer, to whom she was married on June 16, 1897, came here in 1925.  Mr. Meyer died in 1943. 

 

She is survived by five daughters, the Misses Ann and Agnes, at home, Mrs. Clara Rood of Fort Wayne and Mrs. Herbert Vanderbosch and Mrs. Walter Shilts of South Bend; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, J. B. Moorhouse, of Pekin, Ill., and three sisters, Mrs. Eugene Vogedine and Miss Ellen Moorhouse of Garrett, and Mrs. George Young of Huntertown. 

 

She was a member of St. Matthew’s Rosary Society, of which she had served as president; the Third Order of St. Francis; the Legion of Mary and the Lay Family of Holy Cross Priests. 

 

Services will be at 9 a.m. Friday in St. Matthew’s Co-Cathedral with Rev. James Shilts, C.S.C. of the University of Notre Dame, a grandson of Mrs. Meyer, officiating. 

 

Burial will be in Highland Cemetery.  The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Thursday in the Walsh-Bilancio Colonial Chapel, 2718 S. Michigan St., where friends may call after 6 p.m. Wednesday.
