Carroll A. Michels

Lieut. Carroll A. Michels, aged 28, has been officially declared dead by the war department, his wife, Burnas, who lives with their son, Carroll, jr., at 1710 McKinley avenue, has been notified.

 

The B-24 Liberator bomber navigator who has been listed missing in action over Germany since March 3, 1945, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur J. Michels, 901 East Lasalle avenue.

 

Lieut. Michels was born April 4, 1917, in South Bend.  He was graduated from Central High school in 1935 and from the school of commerce of the University of Notre Dame in 1940. 

 

He was married Feb. 15, 1941, in South Bend to Miss Burnas Haslanger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Foster, 230 South Frances street. 

 

He was employed by the Standard Oil company in South Bend before entering service in January 1942.

 

Surviving besides his wife and two-year-old son and the child’s grandparents are five sisters, Mrs. Daniel Lynch, Hammond, Ind.; Mrs. John Harrington, Columbus, O., and Mrs. Charles Armstrong, 1710 East McKinley avenue; Mrs. Herbert Affelder, 1336 East Cedar street, and Mrs. Lloyd Ek, 901 East LaSalle avenue, all of South Bend.
